Step 3: Identify Your Pathway
There are three pathways available to IMGs who are seeking registration to practise medicine in Australia. IMG’s must provide evidence of eligibility to undertake one of the following:
- Competent Authority pathway (UK, Canada, US and Ireland)
- Standard pathway, or
- Specialist pathway
The assessment process assesses the knowledge and clinical skills of IMGs seeking to qualify for medical registration in Australia.
There is a self-assessment flowchart available on the AHPRA website. Medical-Board—Flowchart—Self-assessment-check-to-determine-which-pathway-to-apply-for—for-IMGs-wishing-to-practise (1).PDF
Step 4: Reach Out to HSSI
The different pathways are nuanced and require careful navigation. HSSI are ready to support you with every step of the process. This includes securing job offers in advance, which is a requirement of some pathways, assessing eligibility and identifying the appropriate pathway for you.
